Gosky Spotting Scopes

Gosky offers spotting scopes for hunting, sport shooting and nature observation. Gosky optical observation devices are in the entry-level and mid-price range. The affordable models start at around £85.

Gosky spotting scopes are manufactured in China. The brand was founded for the US market but is sold worldwide. Gosky spotting scopes have also been available in German shops for several years.

Gosky ED Spotting Scope 20-60x 80mm

This spotting scope offers a variable zoom of 20x to 60x. At low magnification, the device offers the viewer a wide field of view. To view details, you can conveniently zoom in to a higher magnification.

At a distance of 1,000 metres, the field of view is 45 metres at the lowest magnification and 21 metres at maximum zoom. This makes the spotting scope well suited for many purposes: sport shooting and hunting, as well as nature observation, for example of birds or game.

The 80 mm lens has a green film coating and allows more light into the spotting scope than the Gosky 20-60 x 60 mm spotting scope, which is also available. Larger lens diameters allow for brighter images. The performance is supported by the multi-coated lenses, which achieve a light transmission of up to 98%.

The spotting scope’s 45-degree angled eyepiece is rotatable. This allows the viewing angle to be adjusted as required. There is a 1/4-inch screw thread on the underside, which can be used to mount the spotting scope on a tripod.

As it is shockproof, waterproof and fog-free, the spotting scope can be used in all weather conditions. The extendable lens hood reduces direct sunlight.

Weighing around 2 kilograms, this Gosky spotting scope is also suitable for walks. However, it is too bulky for longer hikes, so a more compact device should be used in this case.

The ED glass used (ED stands for ‘Extra Low Dispersion’) delivers impressive colours, even at dusk or in poor lighting conditions.

With coaxial 2-speed focusing wheels, you can focus smoothly and accurately with the Gosky ED Spotting Scope 20-60x 80mm. Use the coarse focusing wheel to quickly lock onto the target and then zoom in precisely with the fine focusing wheel. This allows you to see more detail.

Technological developments in Gosky spotting scopes

The model was redesigned in 2019. The BAK-4 glass (barium crown glass) used since then is otherwise only found in more expensive spotting scopes and has a higher refractive index for prisms. The result is high edge sharpness of the image. With this upgrade to the ED 20-60 x 80 mm, Gosky delivers clear images across the entire field of view.

A special feature is the scope of delivery of the spotting scope: a large smartphone digiscoping adapter is included in the package so that you can immediately take photos and videos of your observations. A carrying case, eyepiece and lens protection covers, and a cleaning cloth are also included in the scope of delivery.

Value for money of Gosky spotting scopes

Gosky spotting scopes offer good value for money. However, in terms of build quality, they cannot compete with devices from high-end manufacturers such as Kowa, Swarovski or Zeiss.

Buyers also report more frequent defects in new Gosky spotting scopes. As in this video, where a buyer in the USA presents his newly purchased Gosky spotting scope:
